Etta is a teenage girl, living in an adult world. She’s in high school, checking bullies by day. Working at her friends’ family restaurant by night, helping to pay the bills. She’s just trying to avoid her dad’s “weird” obsessions, and keep her fashions in tact. Luckily she has the bestest bff ever, Nessa, in her corner and the affections of the cool guy in school, Jordan, to distract her from su vida loca!⠀?‍♀️??⠀Another mother, daughter buddy read for the books!⠀Last year I read Carrie’s debut novel, Keep What Remains, and my daughter and I became instant fangirls of the book and author, @clbeamer. We were both so excited to read her latest & greatest!⠀1st! Your slogan/motto should be “Let’s give them something to cry about “! Floodgates open ?⠀Kinsley and I both loved the book and gushed about it. We had a heart to heart about the stigmas of mental health, and that there’s no one “face” of it.⠀The characters were so lovable & charismatic. My heart broke for Etta, a teen who helplessly watched her dad’s spiral out of control. I had a tug of war of emotions with her dad, Joseph, but soon became empathetic because he was a good man, with an illness. My heart ached for Etta’s mom who didn’t know how to handle the situation, but hate that she tried to brush it off & wasn’t in tune with how it effected Etta.⠀Kinsley and I both loved the connection with Jordan & Etta, along with Etta & Nessa’s friendship. Nessa’s family was so endearing!⠀(I thought of Etta, Jordan and Nessa as Kelly, Zac and Lisa Turtle from Saved by the Bell!!)⠀I appreciate the gentleness applied to the heavy topics. We felt so many emotions, but were left feeling hopeful.⠀Kinsley is a diehard romance-aholic, so thank you for these beautiful stories that show the sweetness of young love blooming.⠀I was taken back in the time with sentimental reminders of the 80s, when life was as simple as finding the right outfit. “Cherries jubilees” made me think of my belated grandmother’s Avon lipstick.⠀With all the delicious Italian foods referenced, why didn’t you throw in some recipes ma’am?!⠀This book is for the young & old so do yourself a favor & order your copy TUH-DAY!!
